'Aeroplane Wings & other (Australian) Things’

This body of work came together with the realisation that when I asked for a window seat on a plane, with an intent of taking photos, I usually had a lovely view of the wing – with a bit of landscape or sky behind it. So I included the wing in these tapestries. Other works come from trips within Australia over the last few years, Perth, Broome, Uluru & Central Australia.

The pool hose series was the result of observing that every time I walked past the pool in a Fremantle backyard the hose was making a different but equally interesting pattern that reminded me of calligraphy strokes.

‘Uluru at Dawn’ was a chance glimpse to the right – we were at Kata Tjuta for a photo opportunity, when the crowd people on my right parted & I saw Uluru within a halo of light.

The four long tapestries with word & numbers in the side border are a reflection of observing swimming pools in the Northern Territory, they must have all been made to a building code as they had the same fencing, tile & brick edging, but with a variation of colour. (The numbers & script relate to the date, the location & the temperature.)
